Academic Program Description: English Department
1. Program Vision
To prepare a generation of competent English language instructors who possess the linguistic, cognitive, and pedagogical proficiency required to teach using modern and effective methodologies. The program aims to contribute to community service by spreading linguistic and literary culture and reinforcing educational identity, in alignment with the missions of both the College of Education and the University.
2. Program Mission
The program’s mission is to equip students with linguistic, literary, and pedagogical knowledge while developing the four core skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing, in accordance with the requirements of the teaching profession. Additionally, the program works to refine the student's educational personality, providing them with the expertise needed to manage classrooms efficiently, utilize modern educational technologies, and interact positively with society.
3. Program Goals
The program aims to:
- Prepare qualified teachers with high linguistic and pedagogical competence to teach English at the intermediate and secondary school levels.
- Provide students with the foundations of linguistic, literary, and cultural knowledge, linking these to educational and practical applications.
- Develop students' oral and written communication skills in English, enabling them to use the language effectively in both educational and real-life situations.
- Enable students to employ modern teaching methodologies and integrate technological tools into the educational process.
- Foster critical thinking, analytical skills, and scientific research capabilities among students to serve the development of curricula and instructional methods.
- Build a conscious educational personality capable of classroom leadership, reinforcing educational and ethical values in society, and contributing to national progress by raising the standard of education in Iraq.
